Aug 26, 2010 | Novi Sad | Nis
Though most Belgraders would disagree, there's more to Serbia than the capital. So I made a couple of side trips to the #2 and #3 cities. Located at the northern end of the country, Novi Sad was more picturesque and relaxed than Belgrade, and it seemed somewhat wealthier too. Can't say the same for Nis, located in the far south. Its main tourist attractions are an Ottoman tower made of human skulls and a field where thousands were massacred during World War II. Stayed at the Ambasador Hotel, which functions unintentionally as a diorama of early '80s Yugoslavia.
