Cappadocia

October 2007 • One of the most fantastic landscapes I've ever seen. The Dr. Seuss–like formations have been carved out of soft volcanic rock by wind and rain, and over the centuries various peoples have built cave homes, churches, hideouts, and pigeon houses in the nooks and valleys. Spent a week doing day hikes around Goreme and never got bored. The only thing I might've done differently is not splash out for the balloon ride—the vertigo was knee buckling.
