United States
Black Hills • Badlands National Park
September 2020 • Passed through here during a dodgy spell—one month after the Sturgis rally and one month before a stampede for ICU beds. Western half of South Dakota is one of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen in the U.S.—and it's certainly the most American. Wasn't ready for the audacity of Mt Rushmore. Not only did we steal the land but we also carved our faces on it so the point wouldn't be lost on anyone. Judging by the political signage throughout the state, I'm not at all convinced there won't be another face added soon.
