Russia
St. Petersburg • Golden Ring
Autumn 1996 • It was months before I ventured outside of Moscow due to a heavy work schedule, but when I finally broke free, enjoyment of Russia increased exponentially. St. Petersburg was a revelation after the drab, monolithic hugeness of the capital. And the towns of the so-called Golden Ring, especially Suzdal, were ideal for wandering around in the fall weather. Arline said I'd been taking too many photos of buildings in Moscow, so I made it a point to stalk and accost strangers whenever I was elsewhere.
