Oregon
August 2022 • Oregon has burned a lot since the Biscuit Fire torched half a million acres 20 years ago. Heat waves and extreme drought have become common, and wildfire season is longer and more tense. Burn scars, brown evergreens, emaciated waterfalls, and yellow skies are like checkboxes for this fragility. Spent seven weeks housesitting for a friend in Salem, racking up hundreds of miles in the Willamette Valley and national forests. Even trees next to the Pacific have become tinder for previously unimaginable catastrophe. Oregon is a wonderland, but it makes you wonder for how long.
